GCTU EXECUTIVE MEETS IN MOSCOW

The Executive Committee of the General Confederation of Trade Unions (GCTU) held a session at the Palace of Labour 7 April 2011 in Moscow.

Speaking for its member trade unions in the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Executive Committee of the General Confederation of Trade Unions expresses its solidarity with participants in the mass protest manifestation “For a Social Europe, for Jobs  and Well-being , for Equitable Taxes and Laws” to be held 9 April 2011 in Budapest at the call of the ETUC as part of the European Action Day. STATEMENT BY THE GENERAL CONFEDERATION OF TRADE UNIONS IN CONNECTION WITH THE NATURAL DISASTERS IN JAPAN

The General Confederation of Trade Unions (GCTU) affiliating national trade union centres of the 10 countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and 30 industry-based Trade Union Internationals is deeply shocked at the series of earthquakes and resultant tsunamis that lately hit Japan causing a loss of many thousands of human lives, large-scale destruction of dwellings, industrial enterprises, infrastructure and public establishments, and a threat of nuclear contamination of part of the country’s territory and the adjacent areas. Together with the world trade union movement, the General Confederation of Trade Unions (GCTU) expresses its serious concern over the situation in Georgia where the state authorities and employers supported by the Government keep harassing the trade unions and grossly violating workers’ fundamental rights recognized around the world.
