MESSAGE OF SOLIDARITY BY THE GCTU EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE IN CONNECTION WITH THE EUROPEAN ACTION DAY

European Trade Union Confederation
Brussels, Belgium

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Speaking for its member trade unions in the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Executive Committee of the General Confederation of Trade Unions expresses its solidarity with participants in the mass protest manifestation “For a Social Europe, for Jobs  and Well-being , for Equitable Taxes and Laws” to be held 9 April 2011 in Budapest at the call of the ETUC as part of the European Action Day.
We support the ETUC line for the consistent protection of workers’ interests in the face of the overt attempts by the governments and employers in many European countries to carry out anti-crisis measures at the cost of reducing the living standards of employees, pensioners and all other sections of the population, at the cost of infringing on the legitimate rights of working people.
The GCTU has also been mobilising the trade union movement of the CIS countries to fight for worker-friendly plans of overcoming the financial and economic crisis, for decent work and decent pay for all, and against any restrictions on the rights and interests of workers and their families to oblige capital.
We assure the European Trade Union Confederation and its affiliates of our unfailing solidarity with, and support of, the struggles they are waging in defence of the working masses in the European Union.
