On behalf of the General Confederation of Trade Unions (GCTU) uniting national trade union centers and industrial trade union internationals of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) with about 30 million members, I congratulate you on your election to the high post of General Secretary of the International Trade Union Con-federation (ITUC).

 

Today it is extremely important to have a strong and representative organization of the world’s workers in order to achieve the implementation of a New Social Contract, protect the rights and freedoms of  trade unions, promote the principles of decent work, and contribute to ensuring a just and sustainable peace.

 

I am sure that your previous experience as a high-ranking trade union leader will al-low you to justify fully the trust of the ITUC member organizations and fulfill the mission assigned to you.
